Restaurant Owners – Provide Clean Water and Save Money

Having clean water is a double-edged sword for the food and hospitality industry. Within the pipes, there is a buildup that prevents the water from flowing. While this may not seem like it is a health hazard, the chemicals used to clean the buildup may corrode the pipes.

When talking about restaurants, you may wonder why water filters are important.  It’s all about safety and taste. Chlorine has been used to disinfect water since the early 1900s. Some customers will not notice the taste of chlorine, but others will.  Chlorine can drastically alter the taste of beverages and coffee.

Another compelling reason to employ water filters is equipment longevity.  Water filtration can help your restaurant by:

  • Reducing service calls
  • Maintaining equipment warranty (as impure water will typically void warranties)
  • Filtering minerals, sediment, and contaminants, particularly in hard water
  • Ensuring sanitary serving regardless of municipal water supply issues
  • Providing better-tasting drinking water for postmix beverages, coffee, and tea
  • Reducing limescale buildup in equipment
  • Increasing equipment efficiency by keeping limescale out of components

Water softeners

A water softening system that will reduce the amount of calcium that flows through pipes and can help prevent plumbing damage by removing the excess minerals from the water. The softener works by releasing its own chemicals into the water to reduce the calcium and magnesium, making the water taste and smell better.  It will also be easier on your skin and clothes, as well as protect your water pipes. Water softeners soften the water by removing minerals such as calcium and magnesium and replacing them with a softer mineral – sodium or potassium. Soft water can also make your hair and skin look and feel healthier because hard water can dry them out.

With an average water hardness of over 20 grains of dissolved minerals per gallon, the greater New Orleans area is classified as having “very hard” water by the Water Quality Association, which can lead to an even quicker deterioration of appliances. Anything over seven grains is considered hard.

If you install a water softener all of your plumbing fixtures will last longer. They will last longer because there won’t be the calcium buildup caused by hard water. Water softeners also work to eliminate hard water scales inside pipes and appliances by reducing hard calcium and magnesium that can result in clogs and corrosion. Soft water can also eliminate “soap scum” left behind when cleaning with hard water.

What is a water conditioner?

Another option to a water softener is a salt-free water conditioner – often incorrectly called softening – which is an alternative to sodium or potassium-based water softening. Each address hard water, but water conditioning removes the calcium itself through various systems. Conditioners, however, do not soften water.
